Living History Event this Saturday at Virginia’s Oldest Church – Historic St. Luke’s
This Saturday, September 9 from 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Discover more about life in Isle of Wight County (Warrosquyoake Shire) and the goings-on at the “Old Brick Church” during the 17th century by coming out for this living history weekend at Historic St. Luke’s. Period vendors, living historians, modern food vendors, and more will be available to the public.
Schedule of Events:
9:30 a.m. Site opens.
10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.: Tours of Historic St. Luke’s Church
11 a.m. – Noon: 1680s Lay Church Service (Reenactment)
1 p.m. – 2 p.m.: Aracheologist Alain Outlaw presents “Archaeology at Whitemarsh Plantation,” home of Col. Joseph Bridger, the wealthiest patron of St. Luke’s.
3 p.m. – 4 p.m.: Mead Tasting by Silver Hand Meadery. Tickets sold separately.
4 p.m. – 5 p.m.: Concert by the Locrian Consort. Tickets sold separately.
Horses from the local Gwaltney Frontier Farm, Period vendors, reenactors and a food truck will also be on site throughout the day.
3:00 p.m.: Mead Tasting Fundraiser
Silver Hand Meadery will provide tastings of four types of Mead a historic drink made from fermenting the sugars found in honey. Proceeds from this event benefit Historic St. Luke’s education programs. Tickets to the Mead Fundraiser include complimentary admission to the rest of the day’s events. Must be 21 years of age or older. Proof of ID will be required with ticket.

4:00 p.m.: 7th Century Concert
4 p.m. performed by the Locrian Consort
Concerts by the Locrian Consort are both entertaining and educational. Sit back and enjoy 17th Century Chamber Music played on instruments many of us have never even heard of before. Proceeds from this event benefit Historic St. Luke’s education programs. Tickets to the Mead Fundraiser include complimentary admission to the rest of the day’s events.
