Genuine Smithfield hosts Worldwide Photo Walk

Smithfield-Photowalk

Smithfield will host the Worldwide Photo Walk on Saturday, October 7th. Smithfield & Isle of Wight Tourism is partnering with the leaders of the walk, Judith and Eric Soule of Fresh Look Photography to host 50 photographers who will spend the day in town taking photos, networking with one another, seeing the sites and entering their best shot in a contest for prize money!

What is the Worldwide Photo Walk?

It’s a social photography event where photographers get together to walk around, shoot photos, and have fun with other photographers. After the walk, participants have the opportunity to submit their best photo into a contest.

How does it work?

The photographers will gather at the Visitor Center (319 Main Street) at 10:00 a.m., pose for a group photo, then take off on the walk. They will finish the day at 1:00 p.m. in front of the Smithfield Ice Cream Parlor (208 Main Street).

Entry into the walk is on a first-come-first-served basis until the 50 spaces are filled. (If you need to cancel attending, please let us know so we can find a replacement).

There’s cash prizes!

Smithfield Tourism will sponsor $200 in prize money for the winning images (as judged by Judith and Eric). $100 for first prize, $75 for second and $25 for third. In exchange Smithfield Tourism requests free usage of all 50 individual images submitted to the contest from the walk that day, so photographers will be asked to sign a photo release as well as a model release for any recognizable images of people in their photo.

Is there a fee to enter?

There’s no fee to participate but we hope that all involved will support the Worldwide Photo Walk’s charity “Springs of Hope Orphanage” in Kenya by donating when signing up. 100% of all donations go directly to the orphanage.

Only three rules:

  1. You may only submit one photo to the contest.
  2. Collages aren’t allowed, as they are technically more than one photo.
  3. Photos must be taken during the walk (not before or after).

Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. editing is permissible.

In addition, Smithfield Tourism hopes to partner again with Fresh Look Photography in 2018 to host a second Worldwide Photo Walk, so if you miss out this fall, we hope you can join us in the Spring of 2018.
