Free (& Almost Free) in Smithfield & Isle of Wight County

Feeling a bit of the pinch after the Holidays? No worries! A visit to Smithfield & Isle of Wight won’t stretch your pocket, but it will stretch your mind with our wonderful historic attractions, and it will stretch your body with some great ways to get outside (bundle up if it’s cold) and get some fresh air in a beautiful setting.

So, what can you do in Smithfield & Isle of Wight County that’s free – or almost free? Pretty much everything – including our parking!

Taking place next weekend, January 29 through February 6, Smithfield’s annual Restaurant Week offers diners an opportunity to truly savor our small-town charm AND take advantage of a great price on special Restaurant Week lunch and dinner menu options. Visit the Restaurant Week page of our website for menus.

This is even better than free – you can win a free donut or ice cream cone!
Our favorite flying pig “PD” is hidden all over town in some of our stores, attractions and restaurants!  Stop by the Visitor Center and pick up a FREE coloring & activity book (or download it by clicking on this link). Then find P.D. in four of the locations and ask someone who works there to sign the bottom of page 2 of the book.  Bring your signed coloring book to the Smithfield Ice Cream Parlor for a free ice cream cone OR to Ringo’s Donuts for a free donut! Participating attractions and merchants are listed on page 2 of the book.

The Isle of Wight County Museum requests a $2 admission fee, but beyond that (and that’s almost free!) the museum offers programs, lectures, a children’s story time and guided tours of area attractions – all either for a very small fee or none at all.
The museum’s children’s program “Tell Me A Story” is free for children, parents pay the $2 admission fee. There is also a $2 per person fee for the Battle of Smithfield guided tour.
