What an inspiring way to start your day – a sunrise kayak tour along Cypress Creek and the Pagan River. Make it a family event and create some special summer of 2015 memories.
Kayaks are surprisingly easy to paddle (much easier than canoes!), and with the park’s state-of-the-art (tip-proof) launch, the hardest part – getting into the kayak – is a cinch. Just place the kayak on the dry rails, get in and pull yourself into the river using the handrails. The handrails even extend beyond the launch a bit so that you can get your balance before heading out.
The thing that makes kayaking such a unique water sport is that it’s so quiet and relaxing, even while you get a nice upper body work out. In fact, kayaking is so quiet that as you paddle along you’ll often stumble upon wildlife before they see or hear you coming – and the marshes and creeks of Smithfield are full of beautiful water fowl and other interesting critters.
Tours will be held Sunday, September 13 and Saturday, September 26. Participants will meet at 6:30 a.m. The kayaks will be on the water by 7:00 a.m. for the 2 hour tour. Cost is just $30 per person (Reservations required).
Kayak rentals are included in the fee, but participants can bring their own kayak as well.
